There are Four Sources of Money to Help Pay For College

1. Outside Aid 2. College Aid 3. Federal Aid 4. State Aid
Private Scholarships Money Directly from the College Money from the Federal Government Money from the State of Mississippi
Private scholarships are available from businesses and organizations.  Scholarship applications may be found in the High School Career Center, by searching the internet and your local newspaper, etc. Colleges have scholarship money to award students based on academic merit, financial need, athletics, music/arts, community service, leadership, etc.  Many colleges have a separate application for scholarships and special programs.  Deadlines may be as early as the fall of your senior year!  Visit the college's website under the Financial Aid tab.
Students and parents/guardians may fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) after October 1st of Senior Year to apply for federal funds (including the Pell Grant).  These funds include need-based, work-study programs, and loans.
The Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid offers scholarships and grants based on merit and financial need, including MTAG, MESG, HELP grant, etc. for students who will attend college in Mississippi.  The online application opens October 1st of Senior Year.  The most generous grant is the HELP grant which has a deadline of March 31st.
