Gautier High School, one of two four-year high schools in the Pascagoula-Gautier School District is located in Gautier, MS, approximately one hour west of Mobile, AL, and less than two hours east of New Orleans, LA. Gautier is home to approximately 18,600 residents and is known as “Nature’s Playground” due to our meandering bayous, beautiful waterfront amenities, outdoor recreation, championship-level golf course, and abundant wildlife. We are proud to have the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge, 400-acre Shepard State Park, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Jackson County Campus in our city.
Gautier, pronounced GO-chay or GO-shay, depending upon whom you ask, is a young and growing city in the heart of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Although only the city is less than 40 years old, we are a community with deep roots that has undergone a substantial shift in the socioeconomic population since the coast was devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Socioeconomic issues and inequalities continue to affect the community, and the school district receives 100% free lunch (via block grant). Gautier High School now serves approximately 900 students in grades nine through twelve and has one of the most diverse student populations in Mississippi: White 33%, Black 46%, Asian 1%, and Hispanic 19%.
